Duke Zhaomu's sacrificial utensil |
|
Zhaomu was a quite famous man in the Western Zhou Dynasty. He was a minister in the reign of King Li (877-827 B.C.) and became a senior advisor to the King Xuan (827-781 B.C.) Duke Zhaomu ordered this sacrificial utensil made for commemoration of his father. The eight ancient Chinese characters engraved at the inner side of the bottom and on the under side of the cover tell us the story.
